Andrew Shirk
Founder and CEO, CityPT
Andrew Shirk is a Software Engineer, Software Architect, and digital health leader living in Durham, NC. He is the Founder and CEO of CityPT, a business and clinical operating platform for Physical Therapists to start and grow their own hybrid practices – blending digital and in-person interventions. Founded in 2020, CityPT’s platform gives therapists the software tools and business frameworks to build outcome-based practices that serve patients more efficiently while creating sustainable revenue models.
Andrew founded CityPT after experiencing firsthand how healthcare barriers prevent patients from accessing timely care – a frustration that deepened after losing his wife to chronic pain in 2013. His technical background developing automated software systems for Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) and conversational AI for healthcare at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center revealed how technology can be used to guide and track the impact of clinical interventions within an multi-channel, patient-centered care delivery model. This combination of personal experience and technical insight drives CityPT’s mission to remove barriers between patients and clinicians.
Andrew has presented internationally on using technology to improve healthcare access and reduce clinician burden, including talks at UNC School of Medicine and the International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care. He has served as a panelist and judge for the ACRM LaunchPad competition, an annual event highlighting innovative rehabilitation technologies. Andrew brings a background in photography and design alongside his engineering expertise.
