Carla Carten
Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer
Carla Carten, PhD, has over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, diversity & inclusion, health equity, and change management. At Mass General Brigham, she led the DEI strategy and the United Against Racism Strategy, chaired the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council, and launched the DEI Community of Practice.
Previously, Dr. Carten was Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion at UMass Chan Medical School and Chief Diversity Officer at UMass Memorial Health Care System. She also established the Office of Diversity & Inclusion at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Carten holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior and an MS in Organizational Development and Analysis from Case Western Reserve University, and a BS in Communications from Miami University.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking, hiking, scuba diving, book clubs, exploring communities through food and drink, and learning about the world through her son with autism.
