Joneigh Khaldun

President and CEO

Joneigh S. Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP is a nationally recognized healthcare executive, health policy and public health expert who currently serves as the President and CEO of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), the United States’ sole accrediting body for governmental public health. In this role, she leads the team that works to advance the highest quality standards and services across the public health ecosystem. Prior to this role, she served as the Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer for CVS Health, where she led the team that increased quality and availability of demographic data, expanded access to community health workers, and spearheaded
several disparity reduction clinical interventions. Previously, she served as Chief Medical Executive for the State of Michigan and Chief Deputy Director for Health in the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, where she oversaw public health, Medicaid, behavioral health, and aging services. Her teams have led efforts producing meaningful public health outcomes, including
reductions in infant mortality, expanded access to services, and increases in vaccination rates. She is credited with leading Michigan’s proactive COVID-19 response and was appointed to the U.S. Presidential COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force.
Dr. Khaldun also formerly served as Detroit Health Commissioner, Chief Medical Officer of the Baltimore City Health Department, and as a fellow in the Office of Health Reform in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Milbank Memorial Fund, Essential Hospitals Institute, and Aledade. She has received multiple awards and recognitions, including the George Washington University Monumental Alumni Award; Crain’s Detroit Newsmaker of the Year; Detroit News Michiganian of the Year; USA Today Woman of the Year, and Fierce Healthcare Most Influential Minority Executives in Healthcare.
Dr. Khaldun is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She completed her B.S. at the University of Michigan, MD at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, MPH in Health Policy from George Washington University, and emergency medicine residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital. She is a board-certified practicing emergency medicine physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
