Richard C. “Chad” Mather III MD, MBA is the Chief Medical Officer of Optum Specialty Care and Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Duke University School of Medicine. His efforts are split between Optum Health and SCA Health, where he focuses on accelerating specialty value-based care through meaningful specialist engagement, sustainable clinical transformation, and innovative partnerships. Prior to joining Optum in 2020, he served as the Vice Chairman of Practice Transformation in the Duke Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a past president of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association. His clinical practice focuses on hip arthroscopy/preservation, and he is engaged in national and international leadership roles in this field.
