Shannon Bean is Principal at CEI Ventures, Inc. (CVI) founded in 1994 dedicated to social and environmental impact headquartered in Brunswick and Portland, Maine. The management company (CVI) is established as a for-profit wholly owned by Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI), a non-profit CDFI that has deployed over $1.6 billion in capital to grow businesses, nationally. Shannon leads across the full investment lifecycle including fund strategy, LP relations and fundraising, building deal flow, deal origination, negotiation, & execution, board governance and portfolio value creation. Her growth strategy operator expertise is pivotal in providing strategic leadership on CVI’s impact and sector agnostic thesis’, represents the firm publicly across investor and entrepreneurial communities nationally, and drives the ecosystem-building initiatives. Shannon also partners closely with CEI’s and CVI’s Leadership and works across internal teams to advance both financial returns and impact outcomes.
Shannon is affiliated with Primary Venture Partners as an Expert, where she provides strategic advice and guidance to founders and operators within the Primary portfolio and broader network. Before entering the venture capital space, Shannon spent 6 years in R&D on the pharmaceutical clinical and bench research side, across type I diabetes, age-related chronic kidney and cardiovascular disease, lifespan, and oncology diagnostics. She later transitioned her technical background to diverse operator roles across growth strategy. Her expertise encompasses business and corporate development, global strategic partnerships, product and alliance management and traditional venture capital. Her career includes work with leading organizations such as The Jackson Laboratory, Johnson & Johnson, Excell Partners, and Quest Diagnostics. Her investment and advisory experience spans healthcare, life sciences, software, AI/ML, data analytics, clean energy, and more.
Shannon holds an M.S. in Service, Leadership, and Innovation with a focus on Entrepreneurship, and a B.S. in Biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Applied Analytics from The Roux Institute at Northeastern University. In her spare time, you can find Shannon doing something active – sailing, skiing (snow & water), cycling, hiking, salsa dancing, soccer and basketball. She also enjoys world travel, food, reading and dogs.
